Environment
Asia Iron Australia Pty Ltd (AIA) takes a proactive approach to environmental management across all tenements and land holdings.
The Magnetite Project at Extension Hill is located in the Mount Gibson Region at the junction of the northern Avon Wheatbelt and Southern Yalgoo IBRA bioregions. The area is considered to have a high ecological value and our environmental management systems have been developed and implemented to ensure project related impacts are managed accordingly.
Significant research has been undertaken by Kings Park and Botanic Gardens in relation to the two species of Declared Rare Flora in the Region, Darwinia masonii and Lepidosperma gibsonii. This research is a key input to the species recovery plans that have been prepared to manage these species going forward.
As part of a suite of Environmental Offsets agreed through the regulatory approvals process for the Project, AIA and Mount Gibson Mining established and continue to jointly fund the Gunduwa Regional Conservation Association (GRCA).
The GRCA has members from a range of community interest groups and has been established with the objectives of enhancing biodiversity and regional sustainability values in the area surrounding the mine site.
The GRCA operates in an area of approximately 2,600,000 hectares bounded by Morawa, Beacon Wubin and Paynes Find.
